The Buddhist Mission School is located in the Noh Poe refugee camp; Where 370 students from ages 5 to 15 attend every day. Each month, Colabora Birmania pays for the wages of its 15 teachers, who, like the students, are residents of the refugee camp.

The camp was created in the early 90’s  following the student revolution of 08/08/1988 and the military offensive carried out by the SPDC (Burmese army) in 1984 against the ethnic minorities, mostly Shan, Karenni, Karen and Mon. At the time, the SPDC controlled virtually the entire Thai border and forced the exodus of the first 10,000 refugees into Thailand. According to the last census in September 2011, 16,637 people live in Noh Poe’s refugee camp, 8,230 of which are women and 8,407 are men.

The Colabora Birmania wanted to support this school and provide full salaries for the 15 teachers, in order to maintain the quality of teaching that has resulted in the Buddhist Mission school becoming the most recognized of all the schools in the 9 refugee camps on the Thai border.
